What to expect from a Personal Trainer can be a difficult question to answer. In a world full of body positivity and polarising content I felt it important to address it. Every Personal Trainer has a different approach, background and vastly different life experience.
I want to talk to you about my approach to my own insecurities and how I deal with them based on my experience as a personal trainer and a human who just want to enjoy life.
What to expect from a personal trainer
My coaching style is based off helping people achieve sustainable weight loss and build muscle. I’m all for loving yourself and the loving how you look regardless of scale weight or how much body fat you have, I’m just not one for absolutes. Absolutes in training and nutrition don’t sit well with me or my coaching approach because like I mentioned at the start we are all so vastly different.
What may be achievable and manageable routine for one can be too much restriction for another. That’s where the art of coaching comes in to achieve results like my clients have done over the last few years. Being an Online Personal Trainer in Ireland.
I help a lot of my clients learn how to love their own skin in every stage of the process. But even as a personal trainer who doesn’t place self worth on how I look (trust me I did for years) I still have my days where I feel insecure or unconfident in how I look.
Each coach has a different approach so there’s no one size fits all when answer what to expect with a personal trainer. You can follow my guide on where to find a personal trainer. In it I talk about what to look out for and the types of questions to ask your Personal Trainer.
Working on my insecurities as a personal trainer
You cant expect to get the same approach from every trainer. We’re humans too. Some of us love to eat and drink with friends others don’t. Seeing a photo like the one at the start of this blog post where my belly hangs out, doesn’t immediately get a response of confidence and self love, but rather self-judgement. (Which I think too, is normal) we are our own worst critics and find the negatives a lot easier than the positives. But after that initial response, I chose to see it differently and as the fun picture it is.
I can relate to my clients and the difficulties they face in light of changes in their eating and fitness habits. I recently started a small dieting phase because I started to notice fat around my chest / boobs that I have never had before and it made me self conscious.
Spend the time becoming comfortable
I’m okay with having extra body fat on my arse, my belly, my legs but jiggly boobs doesn’t scream self-confident or sit too well with me, it makes me insecure, and despite popular belief their is nothing wrong with insecurities. If you aren’t insecure about anything it’s likely you’re a liar, narcissistic or both.
I love myself when I’ve been at my leanest, and I love myself when I’m heavier, and am happy in my skin. But my most happiest and confident self lies somewhere in the middle. Trust me when I say there is no best online Fatloss programme or online diet and exercise program you can follow to feel comfortable in your own skin. I know it may not be what to expect from a personal trainer but your self-acceptance and ability to love yourself first is number one in my eyes.
It’s important to spend the time becoming comfortable with yourself separate from your body. And the reason I’m sharing this is to let you know,
It’s okay to love yourself and how you look while simultaneously wanting to change your body composition for selfish reasons like self-confidence. If you can’t be selfish for you, nobody will.
